The "Abbot Elementary" star broke down speech patterns on the Wednesday, April 12 airing of "Good Morning America."
Michael Strahan said she plays a tough character, Melissa.
"She's not, she's just, you know, she's getting the work done," said Walters, best known for her role as Chessy in "The Parent Trap," starring Lindsay Lohan.
Walters went on to explain how her Maryland roots lent themselves to the Philly accent.
"I'm from Maryland, so I've got that part of it," she said. "We're gonna go get crabs in Dundalk, come on, we're going to go bowling.
"With Philly you shove it all to the front of your mouth," the actress continued. "You don't ever say a consonant."
In its second season, the ABC mockumentary sitcom was created by Philadelphia native Quinta Brunson and has won three Emmy Awards.
